Another definition of Holistic is perceiving with the principles of holism in a system of therapeutics, especially. one that is considered outside the mainstream of drug oriented medicine, as naturopathy, chiropractic, homeopathy, herbology acupuncture and usually involving nutritional measures.

A Traditional drug oriented medical philosophy treats physical symptoms, using standardized methods which are the prescription of drugs or the undertaking of surgery, while the patient is only passively involved. Practitioners of holistic medicine believe that a persons attitude affects their present condition, and the patient may play an active role in the healing process.
